5 of the Best Sunday Lunches in Keswick
The Sunday lunch is a favourite meal of the Brits. And who doesn't love some slices of roast beef, a couple of Yorkshire puddings, plenty of roast potatoes, and lashings of gravy? We know we do, so we thought we'd share some of the best places in and around Keswick where you can get a tasty Sunday roast. Which is your favourite?
The Pheasant Inn

With just about all ingredients sourced locally from within Cumbria, the Pheasant Inn's food offers a real taste of the county. Beef, pork and chicken are on the menu for Sunday lunch, as well as a tasty vegetarian option and a "Little Roast" for ages 12 and under, or 65 and above. There's a cosy fire for the cooler months, or you can sit outside in summer. Plus, there are three "all weather" seating areas on the upper terraces. Despite all this space, we'd recommend booking, as it's always popular.
The Pheasant Inn is just across the road from Keswick Adventures' HQ, so very convenient if you want to refuel after a day of outdoor adventure activities.
"Can I give 6 stars for service?? The Pheasant is a lovely, comfortable traditional British pub. We had Sunday lunch. All of the food was wonderful. It was all cooked extremely well. One of the major highlights was the serving staff. Efficient, extremely helpful and very smiley."

The Twa Dogs

The Twa Dogs is just a short walk from the centre of town and popular with both locals and visitors. Known for their friendly service and reasonable prices, you can have a very relaxed roast at the pub and even watch a bit of sport while you're at it. Beef, turkey and chicken are available for a traditional Sunday roast, while there is also a good selection of vegetarian and vegan options. Throw in the option to upgrade to a large(r) portion, and it's easy to see why this spot is known for having one of the best Sunday lunches in Keswick.
"The best roast dinner I've had in a long time. The beef was perfect, melted in your mouth, the gravy was delicious and the Yorkshire puddings were the bad boys of all Yorkshire puddings!! Lovely plentiful vegetables with a tasty cheese sauce over the cauliflower."

Horse & Farrier

Freshly prepared ingredients from the local area add to the taste sensation of the roasts at the Horse & Farrier. With an open fire, friendly atmosphere, and fantastic surrounding scenery, this pub has everything you could want after a day on the fells or wandering around town.
Slightly outside Keswick, the Horse & Farrier is worth the trip to the nearby village of Threlkeld. Why not enjoy a walk along the Keswick to Threlkeld Railway Line, take a break at the pub for your Sunday lunch, then saunter back to Keswick along the same route? It's also possible to drive or catch a bus.
"Superb Sunday dinner in a gorgeous old pub. The staff were very welcoming and great with our little one. Fantastic menu and the food was delicious. The place is beautiful: it's from 1688 and the area surrounding it is gorgeous with views of mountains from every angle. Very reasonable pricing with very tasty food."

The Coledale Inn

In the neighbouring village of Braithwaite, the Coledale Inn describes itself as "a genuine country inn". It's got a great home-like feel, with no fuss and frills, and a fire for those wet and windy days, so you can dry off after any walks. Or sit in the grassy beer garden when the sun's out. Just read the reviews and you'll see that many people - locals and visitors alike - return time and again for the food.
"Regularly drop in either for their huge portion of chips and onion rings with friends or a Sunday roast with the family. Great service, dog friendly, great food and good portions. Our favourite pub to eat in in the area."

The White Horse Inn

Just a 10-minute drive from Keswick, the White Horse Inn is a really special spot. Characterful slate flags cover the floor, a roaring fire crackles in the fireplace, and the traditional look is enhanced by sympathetic modern touches. And what about the Sunday roasts? Well, they won't disappoint! Hearty meals include beef, pork and lamb on the Sunday menu, and several vegetarian and vegan options. Plus, plenty of gravy!
"If there is a better Sunday roast in Cumbria please let us know! The 'Blencathra Mega Roast' is not for the faint hearted and lovely."
