Things to do in Keswick at Night

Friends, families, couples and solo travellers looking for a relaxed evening out in Keswick will find plenty to do. And while the town isn't the wild night out that some people might be after, an evening in Keswick will be one that's well spent.

Before you head off for your night in the town though, enjoy a day out with one of our outdoor activities.

Find a beer garden

On those warmer summer nights, there's nothing we enjoy more than sitting out with friends and family around a picnic bench and enjoying a drink and a crack. One of our favourite beer gardens to visit after a day of adventure activities is at The Round, where you can also get great burgers if you're feeling peckish. The Oddfellows Arms is also a popular choice for its lively atmosphere.

Even if the weather's not doing you any favours, there are plenty of traditional and modern pubs to choose from in Keswick and you can be sure of a good night out at any of them. Or you can try out one of our fun indoor activities.

Eat at a restaurant

You could eat somewhere different every evening during your stay in Keswick. Why not have Italian one night, then Thai the next? Or maybe an Indian followed by some pub grub? Or perhaps you're someone who finds a great spot and sticks with that for your whole visit.

Whatever your tactic, take a look at our pick of the best restaurants in Keswick.

Take a ghost tour

How's this for something a little bit different? If you love horror or are fascinated by the unexplainable, then Lakeland Hauntings' ghost tours will be right up your street. They run at night throughout the year and are a fascinating and spooky way to spend an evening.

Go stargazing

The Lake District has some fantastic dark skies, and while the darkest aren't over Keswick, you can still observe some pretty amazing scatterings of stars above the town. Head out on a short walk towards Friars Crag on a clear dark evening and gaze in wonder towards Borrowdale and the twinkling skies.

Enjoy a paddle

This one's for those that are experienced on the water. Why not get out your kayak or paddle board and head onto the water for a pretty incredible paddle? Nothing beats the peace and quiet of the water at night.

You don't have to wait until darkness falls either! In the summer, the evening is a great time to spend on the water because there's less water traffic and the cooler temperatures are pleasant after a hot day.

Catch a show

The Theatre by the Lake is a must-visit while you're in Keswick. Set right on the shores of Derwentwater, it has a varied programme of comedies, drama, lectures, music, and more. The standards are always very high, with a number of big names seen from time to time, too.

Watch a movie

If theatre isn't you're thing, maybe you'd prefer to see the latest blockbuster or an intriguing Indy film? Keswick's Alhambra Cinema is a family-run Art Deco cinema that's a really special place. It's decorated out for the era, with a great bar and original furnishings and decorations.

Listen to live music

You can often hear the strains of an acoustic guitar or a catchy melody rising out of the bars and pubs in Keswick. Look out for live music nights to add a little extra to your evening meals or drinks.

Go on a hike

If you're experienced and well prepared, hiking in the mountains is a great evening or nighttime activity. You're unlikely to come across many other walkers, and you can see a unique view of the Lake District that few others observe.

Remember that nighttime hikes should only be attempted by those who are experienced and fully prepared.

Get pampered at a spa

Just outside Keswick are a couple of relaxing spas, such as the Lodore Falls and Armathwaite Hall. If you're after a relaxing evening, then you couldn't do much better than some late treatments here.

Find a festival

Keswick has a full calendar of events throughout the year, particularly in summer. Time your visit right and you could enjoy any number of festivals such as the Beer Festival, Words by the Water, or the Mid-Summer Festival. These events run on into the evening with lots of celebrations and fun to be had.

As well as planning your nights out, don't forget to book in some of our fun outdoor activities!
