If you’re planning ahead for an amazing hen do, then we don’t think you could find anywhere better than the Lake District. For either a day’s activities or a full weekend of fun, there’s excitement in store for the whole party.
And, while we obviously think that Keswick offers the best of everything, the whole national park is an amazing playground for adventurous hens, or those who just want to make the most of the scenery.
Read our top 5 reasons to have your hen do in the Lake District. And, if you fancy an outdoor adventure while you’re here, don’t forget to get in touch!
1. Things to Do
The heart of any hen do is making sure the bride-to-be has an amazing time with her closest friends and family. For a whole weekend, especially, you want to make sure there’s plenty of going on that the whole group will enjoy!
Walking, lake cruises, unique craft classes, live music, festivals, spas, outdoor adventures… The Lake District has this all and more, and you can do all of these things either in Keswick or just a short ride away.
Why not get your adrenaline pumping in the morning with one of our exciting outdoor activities? Ghyll scrambling, canyoning and the Via Ferrata adventures are particularly popular with hens! Then, once you’ve dried up and come back down to earth, head to Keswick for a classy afternoon tea, enjoy a gentle walk to the lake in the afternoon, then dress to the nines and head out for some drinks and live music in the evening. That sounds like a pretty amazing day to us!
2. Pubs, Restaurants and Bars
It’s true that you won’t find the same kind of nightlife in the Lakes as you would in the city, but don’t let that put you off! Head to towns like Keswick, Ambleside and Bowness-on-Windermere for a lively night. There’s a good selection of bars, quality restaurants, and award-winning pubs to crawl, and you’ll be drawn in by the friendly atmosphere and a warm welcome. Many also host regular live music nights.
Looking for something a bit more chilled out? Everywhere from the biggest town to the smallest hamlet has a cosy pub for a laid-back evening, many with open fires and good, local drinks.
3. Excellent Accommodation
After a brilliant but exhausting day, and perhaps a hardcore night, you’ll want somewhere to lay your head. The Lake District is one of the most popular destinations in the UK, which means that there’s loads of great accommodation on offer. Group self-catering cottages are perfect for chilling out all together, while B&Bs and hotels are ideal for something fancy or something homey, depending on your preference.
Alternatively, why not go glamping in a yurt, shepherd’s hut or a pod? Or, if you want to get really into your adventure weekend, get the tents out, or enjoy an adult sleepover in a camping barn.
4. Peace and Quiet
Whether you’re nursing a killer hangover after the night before or just want to indulge in a well deserved lie-in, then the peace and quiet of the Lake District is second to none. Even in the most popular of towns, noise is at a minimum and you’ll have little but some cheerful birds chirping to disturb your beauty sleep!
When you’re away with your nearest and dearest, too, it’s good to spend some quality time together and a quiet walk or hike up a remote mountain or along a rippling river is just the ticket. You don’t have to be all go all the time, after all!
5. Beautiful Scenery
We couldn’t round off any ‘best of the Lake District’ list without mentioning the scenery! From soaring mountains to glittering lakes, lapping oceans to open fields, the beauty of the Lake District is far-ranging and spectacular. While it might not be your top priority for a great hen weekend, it will certainly be the cherry on top of a memorable getaway!
